JULY 29, 2025 – 9:30 AM – INITIAL REPORT:

Facilities has shut down power to the building and turned off the generator to repair a power issue.  There is no ETR (est. time of repair).

Description

ITS system administrators will apply critical security updates to servers, including Oracle database servers.

There will be brief disruptions to:

  • Print and fax services
  • TritonApps sessions
  • SharePoint locker sites (with locker / mylocker domains)
  • Remote Desktop Gateway

There will be extended outages for:

  • Oracle databases
  • Web applications running on apps.umsl.edu, fusion.umsl.edu and coe.umsl.edu
  • Kuali forms (specifically those using Oracle data)

PeopleSoft applications including MyView, MyHR, etc. will not be affected

SharePoint sites with sharepoint.com addresses will not be impacted

Updates have been applied successfully

UMSL ITS will apply the latest security patches to SharePoint on-premises servers. Microsoft has released critical security patches outside the standard schedule.

SharePoint sites with umsystem.edu and umsl.edu addresses will be temporarily unavailable in order to complete installation of critical patches. The expected impact should be limited to only a few minutes. Sites with sharepoint.com addresses will not be impacted.

 Access to SharePoint on-premises sites

Description

Update – July 21, 2025, 8:00 pm

Security updates released from Microsoft have been applied successfully

Due to a recently discovered vulnerability affecting the on-premises versions of Microsoft SharePoint, University of Missouri’s Information Security Officers have implemented limited access to SharePoint on-premises sites only to systems using campus IP addresses or VPN connections, effective immediately.

Impact:

This change affects sites in these domains, used with SharePoint on-premises:
• collaborate.umsystem.edu
• mysharepoint.umsl.edu
• sharepoint.umsystem.edu

Exceptions:
• This vulnerability and resulting change do NOT affect SharePoint Online sites, which are located within mailmissouri.sharepoint.com.
• Sites within locker.umsystem.edu or mylocker.umsl.edu have always been limited to campus systems and VPN.

Additional information:
• Microsoft has not yet released a security fix for this vulnerability, which is why the access restriction is needed.
• Sites within the affected domains should have already been migrated to SharePoint Online or other approved solution, and the SharePoint on-premises sites should be set to read-only. If you are still using information from an on-premises site and cannot access it via a campus system or over VPN, please contact Sharepoint@umsl.edu for assistance.

 CNS Network Upgrade

Description

Update – 7/20/2025, 11am

Upgrade complete.  All users have been migrated to new hardware.

 

Networking will be upgrading the network equipment in the CNS building.  Users will experience intermittent interruptions to wired and wireless Internet and telephones during the maintenance window.

 Scheduled Campus Firewall Maintenance

Description

On Sunday July 20th from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM we will be performing general software maintenance on our campus firewalls.  We do not expect any noticeable network outages during this time but it is always a possibility when updating systems.  MOREnet Internet Maintenance – 7/22/2025, 10am

Description

Update – 7/22/2025, 2pm

Maintenance has been completed without causing a disruption for campus fiber

 

MOREnet and UMSL engineers will be making upgrades to one of the campus’ Internet connections.  The remaining connections will not be changed, so no outage to the campus is anticipated.  There could be a potential brief disruption to the remote sites including STLPR, CAC West Pine, CAC Kirkwood and the Eye Care centers at Lindell and East St. Louis.
